This is episode one, where we're going to tell you all about what Future Proof U is about. And today we have the other partners here besides myself. My name is Dan Yu. We have John Lovig and Aaron Makelky. And we are the team behind Future Proof U. And we're really excited to tell you all about what we're doing today. so happy new year to everybody. So, and really just, we really appreciate any, any participation that you could bring to us. In our podcast, we appreciate all comments. We would like to invite all of you to give us as much feedback as possible. And so the idea behind Future Proof U to teach sustainable career management skills to all of you, where we. Can help you in your career journey, whether you are in college, whether you are early [00:01:00] careerist, a mid careerist, or on the tail end of your work life. matter what happens, there's some fundamental things that do not change at any point in your career. And we're here to help you with your journey. So, I'm going to turn it over to John Lovig, who is a recruiter and a headhunter, and he's been in the for 20 years now, right John?
John Lovig: 15. Don't age me that much. Yeah, so I've been in the recruiting industry for 15 years, worked both in house as well as on the agency side. I just recently formed my own agency. I teach courses around things like interviewing, LinkedIn profile, revamping, resume writing, networking, as well as job hunting like a headhunter.
Dan Yu: That's great. And that's actually the title of one of our courses, Job Hunt Like a Headhunter, [00:02:00] where we teach skills that headhunters use to go find talent. flip the model. And we teach people how to use those same skills to find jobs. Also today we have Aaron Makelky. Aaron, we'd love to hear your story.
Aaron Makelky: Yeah, thank you and thank you listeners. I am Aaron Makelky. I, by trade, am an educator and a coach. I've taught high school social studies for 15 years as well. also been a head football coach. I traded my whistle for a podcast, Mike, and, Tik TOK selfie video about a year ago. one of the things that I've seen is just that there's a gap between what schools are teaching and what people need when they hit the career field, or even trying to get into college. And as a teacher who's inside the system,
Dan Yu: to
Aaron Makelky: to bring change from within, but we can bring change [00:03:00] from without with Future Proof U and a podcast all the places that we create content.
Aaron Makelky: And my heart is just to help people,
Aaron Makelky: with technology skills. I do some AI integration consulting on the side, besides teaching about Rome to my high school students and help entrepreneurs and small businesses, college professors, and schools get prepared for AI because their employees and students are using it.
Aaron Makelky: They just don't know what they're doing and need some help. And a lot of leaders in business are looking for employees with AI. AI and tech skills that they lack when they come out of the school factory.
Dan Yu: Yeah, and those skills, obviously, they're never going to go away, right? I mean, we, we have this, this huge, population that still doesn't know anything about AI. They read about it in the papers, but, it, I think this is the perfect opportunity to really teach. these skills and, Future [00:04:00] Proof U is here to help with that. And, one of the classes that, that you've, you've taught, it's, it's actually called Future Proof Your Skills with AI.
Aaron Makelky: Yeah. And we had a broad range of people from cybersecurity analysts to attorneys to marketers and infrastructure people, entrepreneurs. teachers. Everybody's saying, you know, how do I layer AI into my, my skill stack and make it work for me so I don't get replaced by it?
Dan Yu: Well, to our listeners, to our audience, thank you so much. we're, going to be Releasing and launching, a few dozen classes this year. And we're excited to have you be a part of the journey of our journey as we help your journey as well. And, we will have classes, individual coaching, as well as a community. So of different products that you'll have access to and. [00:05:00] at different price points as well. So, there's many solutions to help you, and achieve really the best part of your career and, and enhance your work life.
Dan Yu: One tip that I think everybody can, think about for, let's say their LinkedIn profile, most people look at LinkedIn as looking towards your past, or maybe your present. one of the things that we try to teach is using LinkedIn to talk about your future.
Dan Yu: Where do you want to go? Ultimately, we think that's much more interesting than your past. So speak, when you write on LinkedIn, use a voice that has a future tense. Where do you want to go? What industries would you like to be in? What types of roles would you be interested in? What types of organizations really attract you?
John Lovig: For me, I would always say if you're going to apply to a position and you're using LinkedIn, [00:06:00] you guys will know this one already, but if you're using LinkedIn to apply for jobs, if the button says easy apply, go to the company website and apply there. Because if you don't apply directly on the company website, your resume won't make it to their database.
Dan Yu: And so you won't be searchable for future positions, and you're less likely to be seen by a hiring manager. you can apply to both, but definitely apply on the website. Yeah, that's a great one.Yeah.
Aaron Makelky: I would say for mine,
Aaron Makelky: having themes, you might sit there and go, what am I going to post about? Everybody says I'll run out of ideas. In my experience as someone who never posted on LinkedIn until last year, the more I posted, the more ideas I got. And the opposite happened. Instead of a finite supply, like in your gas tank, I used all my LinkedIn ideas for the year. By the end of the year, I had so many that I didn't even use that I would keep an Apple note or a Google [00:07:00] Doc, whatever's easy for you. when you're walking to work or get out of the shower and have that idea, is just put it on the list for later. And if you have trouble, then come up with themes for the day. could do, Dan likes to do, personable stories or fun stuff on Fridays. Or you could do pop culture. You can do wins, struggles, testimonials, successes. Another fun one is, if you feel like you can't give advice to other people because you're no expert. It's five things I wish I knew when I got into this career, or five things I knew, I wish I knew when I got out of college. And just have a strategy around the format that you're gonna post, and then keep ideas somewhere. And the more you post, the more ideas you will come up with. You will never run out.
Aaron Makelky: One of the greatest tiktokers that's out there is a guy named Sidney Raz, and in his 40s now, but he started His TikTok journey, [00:08:00] with the theme, things I wish I knew before I turned 30 and it's little tidbits around the house, you know, how things might work, little tricks in the kitchen. And it's, it's terrific. I think the, to your point, Aaron, one of the new things around, running out of ideas. I think the most important thing, to think about with, media is that it's ephemeral. It shows up on a feed and then it goes away. And so your audience may not be watching at that time that you posted it. And the algorithm may not serve it up to them when they're on. Because maybe there's another post that the algorithm thinks that they should be watching. And so reusing ideas, the evergreen ideas, Really doesn't hurt your reputation. It doesn't hurt anything. And I think it actually re emphasizes [00:09:00] who you are and what you can mean your audience. And I think that's the most important thing. And the, the best part of the algorithm is if it sucks, no one sees it. So you don't have to worry. Millions of people won't see your bad article. Three people will, and then you'll make it better next week and get more viewers.
John Lovig: Yeah, it's very true.
Dan Yu: Thank you everyone for joining the first episode of Future Proofs U podcast, F yourself.
